About
Hi, I’m Kate and I am your Elected Member of the District Council for the Ward of Oakham, Oakham starts at West Nottinghamshire College all the way down to Sainsbury’s out as far as Oakham Business Park and Hermitage Mill.
I am the Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration at Mansfield District Council a post I have held since October 2002, I am a Magistrate, a Rotarian, a Governor of West Nottinghamshire College and Making It. I was Chairman of DARE [giving children at school lifestyle education to avoid the many dangers that face young people in a drug using world] I am now a Trustees of DARE.
I was instrumental in bringing the Sainsbury’s/Aldi store, upgrading from a very small supermarket into a large superstore which attracts many people into Mansfield. That development improved the road junction and the flow of traffic within the Leisure Park by putting in a roundabout. I also worked hard to bring in a hotel and three restaurants and like many of you was very unhappy when the Labour group voted against having this leisure use on our Mansfield Leisure Park, if you have any views on this please let me know.
We are particularly proud of our new bus station and the new Queens Place shop and office development in the town centre, you can see the green roof from many points in the district and it has become a talking point. Please let me know what you think.
I frequently walk my ward [often with my two little dogs], I drive the ward every week, but I see so much more when I’m out walking. I often chat with constituents as I go on my walks, but I want you to know that you can always get in touch with me by phone or email and I will endeavour to help with any issues you have regarding Mansfield and in specifically Oakham Ward.
There are three proposed developments you may wish to know about and give me your views on, firstly a possible new housing development in the old Gregory’s Quarry, access to the site is proving difficult, access would need to come through from Quarry Lane, and we are working with the environmental agency to see if that can be achieved. It is very early days, but now is the time to let me know your views.
The second exciting news is that I am told that Hermitage Mill has been bought by developers who are interested in renovating the mill and converting into luxury apartments, and some large houses in the grounds. Again its very early days and the developer has not given us any detailed plans yet.
