Allotments for the Labouring Poor in Mansfield (former trustee).
I was first elected to Nottinghamshire County Council in June 2009, ending years of Labour dominance. My election manifesto was to do all that I could to improve Mansfield’s share of infrastructure improvements, to cut the cost of councillors to the council tax payer and to serve all the residents equally across Mansfield East, giving the same service to all, irrespective of their post code.
At County Hall I am currently the Deputy Leader of the Independent Group, Vice Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Chair of the Mansfield Member’s Forum.
Since June 2009 Mansfield has benefitted greatly with a New Youth Centre on the Westfield Folk House site (£6M), Central Library modernisation (£3M) and the new Transport Interchange (£8M). The cost of councillors has also dramatically reduced, some allowances for purely political appointments have been scrapped thanks to our groups’ representation at the Independent Review Panel, and we also totally supported the scrapping of the £6 per day meal allowance and the reduction in travelling expenses by 33%. This has saved you, the council tax payer many thousands of pounds.
I was elected to Mansfield District Council in May 2011 to represent Holly Ward. I currently serve on the Planning,Standards and Appeals Committees plus Select Commission Two (Crime and Regeneration).
My focus is making sure that I am available, at all times, to help constituents’ with any problems that they may have regarding services supplied by both County and District councils. Through my Councillors Divisional Fund I try to support as many local community organisations, young people’s groups, schools and sporting ventures as possible. The elderly and the young are my major concern but not my only concern, please contact me if you want to discuss my support for your projects.
